Tree silhouette - mosaic

This tree silhouette is a Quill-Along-Project  that I made following Erin Perkins Curet's instructions and also putting my own spin to it.

All the paper strips are 6 mm wide and 21.25 cm (17 inches) long. However, each shape is only half a strip long.

First I chose my background by making a web-search. This is what I liked.

Trying to come up with something similar to the print, I painted my background with acrylic paint on a 25 cm x 20 cm (10" x 8") canvas.

As I am not a good artist and did not want to spoil my "work of art", I drew a tree on a white piece of paper to see that I liked its shape and final appearance on the background.

Once I decided that I liked the tree, I cut it out.

I placed it on my background to find the proper setting.

I traced it onto my background using a permanent marker.

I painted the tree black with a permanent marker.

Carefully I outlined the tree with a black strip of quilling paper. So that it would be sturdy enough I glued 3 strips together.

I filled the tree using loose closed circles that I shaped as necessary to fill in all the spots. To fill the tree I used 56 strips that were 42.5 cm (17")  long and it took me 3 hours. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of this step.

Using the same method, I continued filling the rest of the picture. This took me another 11 hours but I did not count how many strips I used in all.

 Finished!  Work Completed!

I finally framed my piece and you can see the final product at the beginning of this tutorial.
