How to make the "Artichoke Flower"

         

MATERIALS:

- 2 quilling strips:

-         1 light blue 2cm wide and 30 cm long

-         1 dark blue 2cm wide and 30 cm long

     I used shades of blue. However, you can use any two colors of your preference.

- Glue

- Quilling needle

-  Pen or any other object with a point.

- Mini mold or anything that can be used as a dome shape (optional) 

PROCEDURE:

   Cut two quilling strips: 
 1 light blue 2cm wide and 30 cm long

-         1 dark blue 2cm wide and 30 cm long

 

Take each strip and, lengthwise, fold it in half. 

Take the 2 strips together and, along the folded side, fringe them at a 45 degree angle. 

Take the 2 strips together and roll them into a tight roll. You may want to put a drop of glue every now and then to make sure that the roll does not come apart.

 

Take a pen or any other object with a point and, very carefully, push up the bottom of your rolled flower so that you make a small dome. 

 

Once your dome has the desired height, put glue inside.

 

Allow the glue to dry overnight.  I placed the flower in a mini mold so as to have a nice and even base.

 

Open the petals one by one so that you form the flower.  

VARIATION:

You can leave the flower without opening the petals and use it as a bud.

Materials - Materiales :

• 2 different color quilling strips – any width you desire. I am using light blue and orange but you can use any 2 colors of your choice.

• With my method,  each color will have 2 loops but you can add more if you want.

• You will be turning your comb around every time that you go up or down to make the next loop.

Step 1

 Start with the center loop.  Wind your paper around the middle 2 teeth of your quilling comb.

Put a dot of glue so that it stays in place.

Step 2
    Go to the next tooth up and wind around it.

 Step 3
As you come back, put a dot of glue in the center of your wheatear.

Step 4  Loop around the bottom tooth.

After making 2 loops in the first color, as you come down, place a drop of glue in the center and cut the paper strip.

 Glue the second color.  I suggest doing it at the center.

Glue the next color  (first color again)

   Repeat steps 2-7 until you have as many loops as you need.

Continue making as many wheatears as your project calls for.
